Places to Visit

La Bisbal d'Emporda is the historical capital of the Baix Emporda and is therefore is on good routes to all areas of the Girona Province. All within a 90 minute drive, this diverse area offers you beaches, cities, national parks & ski resorts.

Girona : Founded in 76 BC, Girona has a rich & colourful history, surviving many sieges. The cathedral, built in 1038 is on the site of a former Mosque and close by, the old Jewish quarter with it's shops & cafes, is an enjoyable stroll.  Roman walls, which you can walk along, are just part of Girona's impressive architecture. Plenty of free parking is found by the River Onyar, next to the old town.

Barcelona : The city is reached in about 90 minutes by train or car. A direct train can be taken from Flaçà station, 5 minutes from Corçà. Once there you can tour the city on special open-topped buses or head directly to the main attractions by metro or reasonably priced taxis. Barcelona Tourist information: www.barcelona.org

The Coata Brava Beaches: A coastline for all tastes; long sandy beaches at Pals & Platja d’Aro, small coves from Sa Riera to Tamariu, as well as the picturesque coastal towns of Llafranc & Calella de Parafrugell. The coves are accessed by steep cliff roads, which are safely driven at reasonable speeds.

The Pyrenees: Head towards the Pyrenees for a complete change of scenery. As you pass the lake at Banyoles (used for the Barcelonan Olympic rowing) and the historic fortified town of Besalu, the countryside takes on a ski resort feel, with wooden chalets dotting the mountain landscape. The ski resort Valter www.vallter2000.com at the start of the Pyrenees is close enough for a day trip, approx. 90 minutes by car. All ski equipment can be hired & lessons pre booked.  Vall de Nuria www.valldenuria.com is fun for a family visit whichever season; a skiing venue in winter & a mountain resort activity centre in the warmer months.
